History of Armitage & Associates

Key Personnel

Michael J. Armitage:  Founder/President

A graduate of Illinois State University with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Michael Armitage spent several years as an accountant in a CPA firm.  In 1978, he was appointed as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and assigned to the Milwaukee, Wisconsin office.  His primary assignments were investigating white-collar and organized crimes.

In 1982, he was transferred to New York City where he worked on cases that included bank fraud and embezzlement, public corruption, undercover assignments, the Iran-Contra scandal, and a major congressional bribery matter.  He also served as a supervisor on both the bank fraud and public corruption squads.

In 1987, Michael resigned from the FBI after ten years of service.  He returned to Milwaukee and, realizing the need for professional and technical expertise in the field of private investigation, founded Armitage & Associates.

Michael is affiliated with the following organizations: Advisory Committee for Froedtert Hospital; Board Member of the Better Business Bureau of Milwaukee; Member Society of Former Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Inc.; and Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

Thomas Wagner:  Senior Investigator

Thomas Wagner, CLI, has been in the investigative field for 23 years.  His career began in the U.S. Army where he served as a military policeman in West Germany and California.

Thomas’s primary focus for the past 16 years has been to serve litigation attorneys, corporate officers, and human resource directors.  His clients have included large businesses such as the Milwaukee Brewer’s Baseball Club, insurance companies, and hundreds of attorneys.  Thomas has largely concentrated on complex litigation support.

A Certified Legal Investigator through the National Association of Legal Investigators, Thomas is also past president and a founding member of the Professional Association of Wisconsin Licensed Investigators. His work has appeared in The Legal Investigator and The Informant.  Armitage & Associates is fortunate to have Thomas as a member of its talented team.
